Do the math for a family of four: four shared van seats run 4,000,000 to 4,800,000 VND. The private car costs less than that, and you get the car to yourselves. At two people the shared van is cheaper. At three it is close. At four or more the private car wins on price and comfort.
For bigger groups, the 16-seater van is the option. It costs per seat like the smaller shared van, and it is the standard choice for wedding parties, team retreats, and friend groups traveling together. One booking, one pickup route, everyone rides in the same vehicle.
Private car advantages for families: you set the pickup time within our morning window, the driver waits at each stop, and you can add extra comfort stops for kids without checking with other passengers. Shared van advantages for groups: lower per-person cost, and a built-in social buffer for solo travelers joining a group booking.
Kids on the Visa Run
Children are welcome on every run, and families take this trip regularly. The important rule: every traveler needs their own passport and their own valid visa or visa-exemption status. A child cannot ride on a parent's visa, and border officers apply the same entry rules to newborns that they apply to adults.
For babies, we carry infant seats in the private car on request. Mention the child's age when you book, and we will have the right seat fitted before pickup. The route has comfort stops roughly every 2 to 2.5 hours, and private car passengers can ask for extra stops whenever the kids need them.

On top of transport, budget for Vietnam government visa fees, the Laos visa fee for nationalities that need one, and food. A full lunch at the border runs about 50,000 to 100,000 VND per person, and the border restaurants take cash only, so bring enough for the whole group.
What to Bring and How to Book
Bring the passports. Every traveler needs a passport valid at least 6 months from entry, plus their current Vietnam visa or visa-exemption stamp. Children need their own passports. If anyone needs a Laos visa on arrival, bring a passport photo and cash for the fee. A printed copy of a new e-visa approval helps if you are re-entering on one.
